I have approximately 4.5 million partial projects started or ideas for them bouncing around in my head. Tis the curse of a writer, I fear. I’m really great at starting new things. Finishing them hasn’t always been my strongsuit.
Until now.
That loud scream of “YEESSSSS” you heard just now was definitely me.
I’m not quite done yet. I have probably 5000 words or so to go but I know where I’m going with it, have bits of dialogue all nailed down, and I’m going to finish. This week. By the end of the week, I will have written a book. Whaaaattt???
It’ll be the world’s crappiest first draft and will need a ton of work but it’ll be finished and it will be MINE. The next post you see from me will hopefully be one about how great it feels to have actually followed through on a writing project from start to (sort of) finish.
There aren’t many people in my life that understand why this is a huge deal to me, so I come to you, readers and fellow writers. To the ones that understand getting lost in a book is the opportunity to get lost in a new life. To the ones that understand those scribbled half-thoughts on the bedstand, the ones that create conversations for imaginary people in our heads all the time.
I’m almost there and thankful for the ones that get it.

Yep, I get it.
Wait until you put that final punctuation mark onto paper… then you will feel shock, and a sudden empty void inside of you… Because you will suddenly no longer follow your character’s journey through things. Yes, there is revision and editing… but it isn’t exactly the same. Unless you as an additional chapter, to be inserted somewhere.
But once you reach the end, it is all known, and… well, you’ve just read a book. That came from your pen, one word at a time.
Keep going, and don’t give up! It’ll be worth it in the end, I can assure you. :@)

The anticipation of getting to that point is pushing me right along. I’m afraid I’m already falling into the “but what I wrote second book with these characters” trap so I don’t have to miss them! Who knows, though. I still have a teensy bit before this one is done and some other ideas I want to get down on paper. Thanks for stopping by with such awesome encouragement!

That’s fine… I know what it can be like, plowing forwards without any encouragement.
As for second book, look at logical outcomes from the first book, and how the characters have changed. That might create some ideas.
I’m in a similar position, and hit problems that stumped me for ages. I realised what was wrong, and then have been able to carry on. I may end up writing another blog post, just covering all of the problems I have had with this…
